Kerala, also known as God’s own country, is located in the southern most part of India. It’s the most green State of India. It’s beauty has attracted tourists worldwide. It’s literacy rate is the highest in the country and is blessed with warm hearted people. Kerala celebrates various festivals with great enthusiasm and joy irrespective of caste or religion. The crowd is massive. The language here is malayalam. A common festival which is celebrated across the globe is Onam. Wherever you go, even if it’s a corner of the world, you would find a keralite there. Such is the contribution of Kerala to the world population.

The geography of Kerala is magnificent. It’s decorated with mountains, forests, farms, crystal clear rivers, ponds and lakes. You could literally watch the underwater colorful fishes going to and fro. If you try dipping your legs in water, these may come in groups and kiss your toes giving a ticklish feeling. The state is pollution free, thus the air is fresh and comfortably cold. If you take a walk through the farms, the ambience is calm and you could easily hear the birds singing. That’s the beauty of nature here.

The main occupation in kerala is agriculture. Thus each house possesses a patch of land in which they do agriculture to earn a living. Kerala is owned by people from different religion, caste, race and places. Thus, every festival is celebrated here irrespective of caste feelings. One among the most celebrated is Onam. Onam has recently gained fame across the globe. Irrespective of the culture, everyone has embraced this festival to their hearts. Everyone gets excited when it comes to celebrating Onam. While in Kerala, Onam is celebrated like this- Ladies wear their traditional white set sarees and men wear minds(white lungi) . The ambience is fun filled. The most attractive thing about this festival is the food. Onam sadhya is served with more than 50 dishes on a banana leaf. Other activities include boat races, lemon spoon races etc .

Second most famous festival of Kerala is the Thrissur pooram. This one is held in Trissur, a district of Kerala. It’s a hindu festival. It’s held on a huge temple ground with hundreds of thousands of people getting together on this day . The main attraction are the elephants. Elephants are decorated with gold and flowers and made to walk in a line. They are made to stand around the temple in a circle with a bunch of band musicians playing in the background. Clothes and food stalls are set up . The ambience is energetic and vibrant.
