Surat is a city in the western Indian state of Gujarat and is located on the Tapi River. Surat, formerly known for its silk weaving, is still a textile trading center and the New Textile Market area is full of fabric shops. Located on the west coast, the city is home to many beaches, one of which is Dumas Beach.

Dumas Beach is one of the most popular beaches among local people. It is  21 km southwest of the city of Surat. The beach is one of the weekend picnic spots in Surat city. It is administered by the  Municipal Corporation of Surat. You can also eat traditional food like Pav Bhaji, Bhajiya, Gathiya and others. Dumas Beach is worth seeing during your visit to Surat. The beach is one of the most beautiful tourist spots in Surat. There are four beaches in Dumas and all are equally famous and attractive.

What’s special about Dumas Beach?

When it comes to the most haunted places in India,  Bhangarh and Kuldhara (in Rajasthan) and Agrasen ki Baoli in Delhi usually top the list. However, the story of Dumas Beach is just as realistic and disturbing. No one knows how much of it is true and how much is just imaginary stories, but there is definitely something there that people visiting there during the night have felt. While this beach appears like God’s home during the day, after sunset it transforms into a devil’s paradise. This beach is one of the main tourist attractions in Surat and is visited by hordes of travelers and tourists every day, but when it gets dark, people leave the place for better things. And those who tried to brave the beach by staying the night either never came back or had worse experiences to share.

Dumas Beach is located on the Arabian Sea and is considered to be one of the most haunted spots in Gujarat. The beach is famous for two things, one being its black sand and the other being haunted. Dumas Beach is said to have been used as a Hindu burial ground and is therefore haunted by various haunted spirits that have never left the region. Folklore explains that the existence of black sand is due to the amount of ash produced by burning the dead. It merges with the white sand of the beach and darkens in the shade.

There’s no denying that the beach has a spooky feel to it. The setting is beautiful but incredibly depressing and you can’t escape the negativity surrounding the place. Various paranormal activities have been reported in the area after the moonlight. According to reports, several tourists and locals have disappeared from Surat’s haunted beach, Dumas. A man was also found dead on the beach with his tongue out. And there is absolutely no one who can explain why these mishaps.

People also claim that they heard strange noises from the beach, like people laughing and someone crying, even when not a  soul was around. Not only that, but locals also say that they have witnessed white apparitions and moving orbs along with other mysterious activities that cannot be explained. Another reported incident is the dogs in the area behaving strangely on the beach after dark, expressing their discomfort with loud warnings such as howling and barking. Whether real or fictional, the dogs here sense the unseen presences and start barking to warn people on the beach not to go any further.

A group of friends who come from Surat once decided to find out if the place is really haunted. There they spent several hours day and night trying to find some truth to the rumors. And after their journey, they weren’t sure what to believe. While they didn’t actually see or experience the presence of any supernatural forces, their photos had a different story to tell. The photos had moving spheres in the shape of meteorites, which are said to be a sign of the presence of paranormal activity. On the first night, something went wrong with the flash on his DSLR but on the second night, they could capture the pictures. Having seen nothing out of the ordinary, they are skeptical that the place is haunted but confirm that the place does indeed have a spooky feel at night.

How to reach Dumas Beach?

Getting to Dumas beach is pretty easy as there are several ways to get there. The beach is about 20 km from Surat city and it takes only half an hour to get there. Several local modes of transportation are available from the city to Dumas Beach. Haunted or not, no one can say for sure, but one should visit this place for the beauty of it.
