Street food is one of the best ways to enjoy an Indian meal. One can relish a variety of dishes that are served with different types of sauces and chutneys on streets and markets. In many cities, India has street food every day of the week.

If you have been following us on our blog then you would know that we love Indian street food more than any other cuisine and yes it’s not just because we are Indians but also because it’s so rich in flavors and so diverse and also because it is pretty affordable especially if you stay somewhere like Pune where most places have different stalls that sell similar snacks and beverages at cheap prices

Dal Makhani

Yes, it’s a debate about which North Indian Dal is better – But here we are talking about the most famous South Indian Dal that is also known as Tamil Nadu’s signature dish – Dal Makhani. You will find this dish even in the most expensive restaurants in the southern part of India.

It’s a classic dish that is made of Spiced and slightly Fermented black lentils (Urad Dal) with Tomato, Onions, Ginger Garlic Paste, Cumin Seeds, and a few more Indian spices. It tastes best when you make it at home. The best way to make this dal is to dry roast urad dal for a few minutes until it changes its color from pale yellow to light brown.

You can also make this at home by soaking urad dal for 12 hours and then pressure cooking it for 3 whistles. Once you have a good base, you can add many variations to make it different each time. Try adding different vegetables like carrots, celery, tomatoes, beans, and many more.

Also if you want to add more protein then you can add boiled chicken or seafood. This dal can be served with Rotis or bread or even by itself to make a perfectly healthy meal. Since this dal is quite spicy, it can also be served as an accompaniment with some naan or paratha.

Bhelpuri

Whole-wheat Flour bhelpuri is one of the oldest street foods of Pune and Mumbai. Bhelpuri is a deep-fried dough ball filled with all the sauces and chutneys of your choice. This is a great snack for kids, people who love to eat anything unhealthy, and people who don’t have a healthy diet – but hey this is what we are all about, right? Bhelpuri is made of whole-wheat flour, water, salt, and ghee.

It is then mixed with different sauces and chutneys and then deep fried and served hot. Bhelpuri is mostly sold by street vendors but you can also find it at food joints, restaurants, and even at some hotels.

Bhelpuri is a great option if you are on a diet because you can easily have it as a snack and it is also very filling as it is served with sides like sauces and chutneys. Bhelpuri is loved by all, it’s finger-licking good and you can have it as a snack any time of the day.

Cup Sandwich

This one is a snack for all the coffee lovers out there. Something about this sandwich just makes it look so good and it’s a simple dish that can be made at home easily. You can either have it as breakfast or a snack at any time of the day. You need some plain cupid’s heart-shaped bread (you can also use butter bread), 2 tbsp butter, 2 tbsp peanut butter, 2 tbsp jam, 2 tbsp raisins, a few walnuts, and some sugar or honey.

You can add any other ingredients of your choice as well. You can also make different varieties of cups such as cups that have chocolate, coffee, tea, and many more. You can serve it as a snack or even make it as breakfast with coffee or tea.

Mutton Vindaloo

Mutton Vindaloo is one of the most authentic styles of Indian food that you will find in any Indian restaurant. Vindaloo is a Goa style of curry that is very spicy and is a signature dish of the state. In the rest of India, you will not find it as authentic. But when it comes to Gujarat, you will realize that this is one of the most common and loved curries in the state.

This curry is made of Mutton meat, common spices, and a distinct flavor of Gujarat. In some parts of the state, it is served with steamed rice instead of rotis. You can also have this curry as a salad by mixing it with coriander leaves, ginger garlic paste, and a few more ingredients.

Samosa

Let’s start with the most popular dumplings in India. You may be wondering what is so special about these little things that we call samosas. Well, they are not just some random dumplings that we call samosas, they are a very specific type of dumplings that are filled with potatoes and are a great option to snack on during the day. They can be served with many different chutneys, pickles, and sauces.

You can also have it as a snack or an evening snack. Just like many other Indian snacks, you can easily make these at home by using store-bought dough. The only thing that you need to keep in mind is that you need to eat these samosas quickly as they are fragile items and will get crushed if you let them sit for too long.

We should also mention that these are best enjoyed when they are freshly made. You can also have them during wedding ceremonies as well because they are very good at breaking the ice between the guests.
